NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A fundraiser for a Newport woman who was injured in the Boston Marathon bombing drew a crowd upwards of 1,000, organizers told Eyewitness News.
Heather Abbott, a Newport native, was seriously injured in the attack on the Boston Marathon . Doctors amputated her left leg last week.
An event at The Dockside on Sunday was organized by friends and family with all proceeds being donated to help Abbott with mounting medical costs. Organizers said the event raised more than $50,000.
The event started at 2 p.m. and went throughout the evening. An estimated 1,600 people came to partake in the raffles, food and music.
