WAREHAM, Mass. (WPRI) – A 6-year-old boy was hospitalized after police say he was shot by a BB gun.
According to police, the young boy was shot in his left shoulder while playing in the backyard of a Swifts Beach Road home on Saturday afternoon.
He was transported to Tobey Hospital and later transferred to Hasbro when doctors found the imbedded pellet had moved from his shoulder and into his arm. The boy was identified by his family as a Cumberland resident.
A police investigation revealed that the pellet shot came from the home next door to where the incident happened. Police reported finding two airsoft rifles and pellets after searching the home.
Officials believe the rifle belonged to a 16-year-old resident who police say deliberately shot the pellet at the young boy.
The teen is facing charges including assault & battery with a dangerous weapon.
