Man pleads guilty to gun charges; sentenced to five years

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A Providence man will spend the next five years in jail after pleading guilty to a pair of illegal gun charges, U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha’s office announced Friday.

Jamal Bannister, 20, of Pawtucket, was arrested in June after police found a loaded firearm with an illegible serial number in his Pawtucket residence. Bannister pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number in October and being a felon in possession of a firearm in October.

Bannister was sentenced on Friday to 5 years in federal prison with an additional three years supervised release following the completion of his prison term.
