PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Forget two-a-days and hitting drills: Under new rules approved on Monday, high school football players in Rhode Island will only be permitted to practice in full-contact mode for 90 minutes per week.
The new rule change was approved by the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Principal’s Committee on Athletic at a meeting held on Monday, Jan. 27.
Another rule approved by the committee mandates that all Thanksgiving Day games be played during the regular season. This means that all semifinal games will be scheduled for the Friday before Thanksgiving, putting Thanksgiving Thursday in the middle of the week off between Division semifinals and championship games.
The new rules will go into effect this Fall.
