DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) -Police and SWAT took a suspect into custody after an hours-long standstill outside of a South Dartmouth apartment Tuesday.
The suspect, Kevin Pacheco, allegedly issued threats against Roger Williams University’s Rhode Island campuses on Tuesday.
New Bedford and Dartmouth Police arrived at a residence on Hemlock Street around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. Shortly thereafter, the Roger Willliams University (RWU) issued a statement regarding an increased presence of law enforcement officers on their Bristol campus.
RWU said the police presence was called after a small group of faculty members at the university’s law school said they received an email from a former student. The email, the faculty members claimed, used threatening language and “raised concerns.”
“I don’t have a copy of the manifesto, but we take any threat to a university very seriously,” said Dartmouth Police officer Kyle Costa.
The school said the suspected student is believed to be in an apartment in South Dartmouth, and that “law enforcement authorities are on site.”
Roger Williams University said members of the Bristol Police Department, out of “an abundance of caution,” will remain on campus until the suspect is confirmed to be in custody.
