Suspect brought back to RI in Cranston homicide case

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Cranston Police confirm that in addition to one arrest, they have identified a second suspect in a Cranston homicide case.

Police said on January 30, a homicide suspect was arrested in Florida in connection to the January 2012 beating that killed a Cranston man.

Police have charged Carlos Manuel Rayes-Sanchez, 30, of Sarasota with first-degree murder and conspiracy. Rayes-Sanchez was transported back to Rhode Island and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday at 9 a.m.  Police did not identify the second suspect in the case, but stated they are already in jail – out of state – on an unrelated charge.

The victim Victor Baez, 49, was assaulted and run over outside of his home in early 2012.

The investigation is ongoing.
