(WPRI) – Winter weather is busting budgets in cities and towns all over Southern New England.
Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian told Eyewitness News that the budget for private contractors is still in the black, but the city’s salt and sand budget are in the red by about $63,000
The city’s overtime budget is also over by more than $22,000 and with more snow in the forecast – it’s bound to get worse.
“We will have to figure out where we’re going to allocate money to cover those costs this year,” said Avedisian.
Across the state line, Fall River’s snow removal budget is also in the red. For every inch it snows, Fall River estimates a cost of $30,000. By the end of Wednesday, Fall River officials estimate the city will be about $400,000 over budget.
