National Wear Red Day

On the first Friday in February, The American Heart Association encourages everyone to wear red in hopes of spreading awareness of heart disease.

Men and women can develop heart disease, but it takes the lives of more women than all cancers combined. In fact, 43 million American women are affected by heart disease.

In 2003, research revealed that heart disease was the number 1 killer of women which sparked the American Heart Association to launch its Go Red for Women campaign. National Wear Red Day hopes to raise awareness of this silent killer and remind others to make healthy decisions to lead a healthier life.

Alex and Ani have created a ‘whole heart’ bangle in collaboration with Go Red for Women day. Twenty percent of all whole heart purchases will go towards the American Heart Association. In addition, four Alex and Ani locations (Weybosset St, Wayland Square, East Greenwich, and Patriot Place) will be donating 15% of their sales on Friday, February 7th. This date also kicks off Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week.
