PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The winter weather is taking a toll on roads around the state, as plows and drastic temperature changes have left deep potholes across the area.
Numerous drivers spoke to Eyewitness News and reported a massive pothole on Pleasant Valley Parkway in Providence, just after it intersects Valley Street.
Yesenia Tovar said she blew two tires while hitting this pothole during this week’s snowstorm.
“It blew away my two side tires. It was really bad – they were flat to the ground,” she said.
She’s not the only one. Jornad Sharp works at the Khout Gas Station right next to the road damage and says he’s seen plenty of flat tires.
“They have slow leaks, a lot of damage. I’ve hit it a couple of times myself,” he said.
Providence Public Works said that when time permits, they patch holes up with help from the Parks and Highway Department. However, they can’t fix them during stormy or especially cold weather because ice still inside of the hole will cause the repair to fail.
If you are concerned about a large hole in your area, be sure to contact your local Public Works Department.
