PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A local store owner is robbed at gunpoint and just hours later, gets a threatening phone call from the alleged suspect.
The owner of Mobile City, a cellular store, told Eyewitness News he recently purchased the store and hasn’t had a chance to install surveillance cameras, but Friday’s robbing might change his mind.
The Atwells Avenue store was robbed around 8:45 p.m. Friday. The owner had gone outside to put something in his car. When he returned inside, the two men were standing inside with guns and wearing gloves.
Police say the suspects forced the owner into a backroom at gunpoint before making off with $1,700. The suspects then exited through the back and took off in a stolen silver Mercedes Benz. That car was found abandoned on Wyndham Avenue near Providence College.
The suspects are described as Hispanic males in their 20’s. The owner says he was able to identify the suspects and hope police are able to make an arrest soon.
