PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence mechanic has died after he was crushed by a pickup truck while he was helping someone get it towed.
José Carrion, 50, died Wednesday following the accident, a Rhode Island Hospital official confirmed.
The victim was a mechanic at Elmwood Auto Sales. According to the city’s fire department, he tried to help connect the truck to a tow truck at about 4:45 p.m. on Public Street when it fell on top of him.
“It was an accident because they had the truck tied up and we don’t know what happened. He put the truck in neutral and the thing came right down on him,” said Giovanny Johnson, his boss.
He was rushed to the hospital in serious condition, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
“To me, he was the best employee I had,” Johnson added. “Very good guy, honest guy, somebody very humble.”
His co-workers said he leaves behind a wife and two children.
