Police look for suspects in purse-snatching

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WPRI) — Fairhaven Police are investigating a billfold snatching and an attempted robbery from this past weekend, with the stolen billfold possibly connected to a purse snatching from the weekend before.

Purse and wallet thief was all in black

A young woman had her wallet snatched out of her hands as she was entering the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Route 6 in Fairhaven this past Saturday just before 2:30 p.m., according to police. She told officers the suspect ran off towards Bridge Street.

On the Sunday before, Feb. 9, an elderly female had her purse snatched off her shoulder as she was coming out of a Dunkin Donuts on Howland Road. The suspect ran off towards Sycamore Street.

Both women described the robber as being a thin white male, about 5′ 8″ tall, clean-shaven, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and black sneakers with a white stripe. The young woman at Rite Aid also said the suspect had a thin, drawn face.

Neither woman was injured in the robberies.

Convenience store crook leaves empty-handed

A man in his late twenties tried to hold up the Cumberland Farms convenience store on Main Street in Fairhaven about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. A clerk told police the man was wearing dark clothing and a face mask; the man threatened the clerk with a knife and demanded all the money in the cash register. The clerk refused, and the suspect ran away.

The suspect in the attempted robbery was described as a dark-skinned male, about 5′ 5″ tall, with light brown or hazel eyes.
