PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Central Falls man, accused of attacking a pair of men with a baseball bat over the weekend, appeared in court Monday afternoon.
Edwin Hernandez, 31, of Central Falls, was arraigned on two counts of felony assault after police say he was involved in the beating of two people outside of a Wendy’s in Pawtucket. Police said Hernandez, along with two unidentified suspects, drove to the fast-food restaurant’s parking lot in a van. The three suspects, one of whom – police say – had a baseball bat, then reportedly attacked two victims.
A passing Pawtucket police officer said he responded to the altercation as the suspects were getting into the van to flee the scene. The officer said the three suspects drove the van a short distance and then exited the vehicle and ran away on foot.
Two suspects were able to get away, but an officer was able to apprehend Hernandez.
Hernandez was arraigned Monday afternoon and released on $10,000 bond with surety.
Both victims’ injuries were believed to be non-life threatening, according to police. The two were identified only as a 38 year-old Pawtucket man and 29 year-old Woonsocket man.
Anyone with information on the remaining two suspects is urged to contact law enforcement authorities.
