LAKEVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police are investigating after a snow plow driver reported a resident had struck him in the head with a shovel.
According to police, officers responded to Churchill Road on Saturday evening as snow was falling heavily in Lakeville. When police arrived, they were met by a plow driver who told them he had been hit in the head with a snow shovel.
Douglas Haskell was taken into police custody and charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on Tuesday.
The plow driver refused to be transported to the hospital.
A second assault with a snow shovel during Saturday’s storm was reported in Hyannis. Police say a man used a shovel to attack a store owner who was clearing a parking area outside of his apartment with a snow blower early Sunday morning.
