PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The famous wife of gubernatorial candidate Clay Pell told Providence police her car was stolen from the couple’s East Side home.

Michelle Kwan, a former Olympic figure-skater, said Pell left the key in the car that was parked near their Barnes Street home Tuesday night as he rushed to attend an event, according to a police report. Kwan said the couple didn’t realize the car was missing when they returned home later in the evening.

The following morning, Kwan said she noticed the car was missing and the couple drove around the neighborhood in search of the vehicle. Kwan reported the car stolen Wednesday evening.

Pell is running in the Democratic primary for governor against Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and state Treasurer Gina Raimondo. The primary is Sept. 9.
