WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Hundreds of people gathered at Woonsocket High School Saturday afternoon to remember a beloved member of their community.

High School Athletic Director George Nasuti died suddenly last month after falling and striking his head while refereeing a basketball game.

His family kept his funeral services private, but hundreds of people gathered to celebrate his life at the school. Several relatives of his spoke, including his nephew Matt Moylan.

“It was George who was there to give me my first skates, take me to Cass Park, hand me my first baseball glove, sign me into my first football camps,” Moylan said. “I was fortunate to have George as my science teacher, health teacher, gym teacher. And my favorite times he was my coach.”

The 52 year-old was universally praised for his character and hailed as a role model for Woonsocket’s youth.
