People involved in wrong-way crash identified

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – State Police have identified the people involved in Friday morning’s wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 South.

The wreck happened at about 3 a.m. in Pawtucket near Lonsdale Avenue, when a car being driven north in the Southbound lanes collided head-on with an SUV.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle has been identified as 21 year-old Estefani Almanzar of Providence, who remains in critical condition at the hospital.

The SUV which was struck had three occupants: the driver, 30 year-old Weiming Chien of Riverside, is in stable condition and the front-seat passenger, 20 year-old Jean Liu of Providence, is also in stable condition.

The rear-seat passenger, 27 year-old Sheng Zhou of Riverside, was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the crash.

State Police say their investigation continues and that so far no charges have been filed.
