Drunk driver drags street sign, nearly hits PPD cruiser

Providence's 68th academy is currently in it's second month.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man is facing numerous charges after hitting a parked car, dragging a street sign, and nearly crashing into a police cruiser.

The Providence Journal Reports Flynn Grinnan, 25, was charged with DUI, plus 10 traffic violations after his arrest around 3:30 am Saturday morning. Grinnan had a blood-alcohol level of .2%; that’s 2.5 times the legal limit.

After coming close to hitting a Providence Police cruiser on Dean Street, Grinnan took off. While being pursued, he drove up on a sidewalk, talking down a street sign and dragged it underneath his truck.

Eventually, Grinnan stopped after driving into a parking lot and told officers he’d had “three beers”. Witnesses say Grinnan also hit a parked vehicle on Atwells Avenue.

Grinnan is being held until his next court date.
