PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — An iconic building on the Providence skyline is opening its doors to anyone interested in renting an apartment there — that is, once 111 Westminster, also known as “the Superman building,” gets going on some major renovations.
Wednesday afternoon marked the first tour, open to the public, of the building and some sample apartment setups — as well as showing off the building’s view.
Anyone can sign up for a ticket to a tour for free at the building’s web site, on the last three Thursdays in March. Tours last about half an hour and are scheduled at the lunch hour.

The tours are offered by building owner High Rock Development. The firm’s David Sweetser has called for a “public-private partnership” — and major assistance from state and local government — to renovate the building, because he says it would bring scores of jobs and boost the economy.
The building has been empty since the last tenant, Bank of America, moved out last April.
