TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) –Several churches are uniting to offer busy Christians a chance to mark the beginning of Lent Wednesday, without getting out of the vehicle.
The Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiverton will host Ashes to Go, where parishioners can drive up to the entrance to Grinell’s Beach and have ashes placed on their forehead without ever leaving their car.
This modern day twist on a very old tradition was designed for churchgoers with busier schedules and can’t make it to church on Ash Wednesday. They now can stop by on their way to work.
The pastors of the Amicable Congregational Church and the First Old Stone Baptist Church will also participate in the program.
The event starts at 6:30 a.m. and will last until 9 a.m.
What are you giving up for Lent?
