ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — The Bristol Country Sheriffs Office has filed a criminal complaint against Aaron Hernandez for his alleged role in a prison fight last week.
Sheriff Thomas Hodgson confirms an altercation took place between Hernandez and another inmate last Tuesday.
The altercation reportedly happened in a special unit where the former football star is being held with a small number of other inmates. Sheriff Hodgson said they’re investigating why the two prisoners were out of their cells at the same time.
The complaint is only being filed against Hernandez. The Bristol County DA’s office confirmed to Eyewitness News that prosecutors were aware of the complaint.
Hodgson previously stated that Hernandez was a model inmate, and says the fight was not something they had anticipated.
Hernandez has been held on murder and weapons charges in the death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd since last summer. He’s pleaded not guilty to those charges.
