Suspect in ‘large-scale’ pot operation arrested

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) – The suspect in what police call a large-scale marijuana growing operation was arrested Friday morning, according to the Burrillville Police Dept.

Mark Tarasiak, 39, lives at a Burrillville residence at which 20 mature marijuana plants were found last Friday, according to police. Police claim Tarasiak fled the scene shortly before officers arrived to investigate a domestic disturbance call at his Douglas Pike home.

It was later determined Tarasian was a convicted sex offender who failed to register when he moved to Rhode Island. He also failed to register in Florida and Massachusetts.

An investigator told Target 12 that the charges that placed Tarasiak on the sex offender list stemmed from an incident involving a 16-year-old girl that transpired when Tarasiak was 17.

Tarasiak was processed and held as a bail violator. Police did not announce when he would appear in court.
