FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) – The man accused of pepper spraying a pregnant woman blocks away from a Fall River bank last week was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing.
Brandon Dunham, 22, of Fall River, appeared in Fall River District Court for arraignment Tuesday afternoon, where his lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his client’s behalf.
According to Prosecutor Robert Kidd, Dunham’s mother said her son struggles with addiction and she had banned him from coming to the home.
Police arrested Dunham Monday night and charged him with assault to rob and armed assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Police say he attacked a pregnant woman around 3:50 p.m. last Monday.
According to police, the victim had just withdrawn cash from an ATM at a Bank of America on North Main Street and was walking on Durfee Street when Dunham approached her and demanded money. Police said the woman pushed Dunham away, but was then sprayed with a “chemical believed to be pepper spray.”
The victim was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital and treated.
