HOPKINTON, R.I. (WPRI) – A woman who was thrown from her car as a result of a serious crash early Tuesday morning is listed in critical condition, according to the Rhode Island State Police Department.
Amy Sherman, 24, of Pawcatuck, Conn. was driving on I-95 near Exit 2 in Hopkinton around 1 a.m. Tuesday when she lost control of her vehicle. Police said an initial investigation suggests Sherman was driving at a “high rate of speed” and collided with the highway’s center barrier.
When the car hit the barrier, police said Sherman was ejected from the car. Police said Life Star – a critical care helicopter service – was called to transport the driver to Rhode Island Hospital.
As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sherman was listed in critical condition with undisclosed injuries.
No criminal charges or motor vehicle violations have been filed, as police say the accident is still under investigation.
The incident closed down parts of the highway for some time, but all lanes have since reopened.
