Pawtucket teacher accused of assaulting student

Richard Koster

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Pawtucket teacher accused of physically assaulting a student turned himself in to police Thursday morning.

Richard C. Koster, 49, of Warren Avenue in Cranston, was arrested and charged with simple assault in connection with an incident last week at Slater Jr. High School, police said.

According to police, a parent of the student reported that Koster grabbed her son, lifted him off the floor, pinned him against the wall and yelled at him. Pawtucket police were able to obtain an arrest warrant after detectives investigated and established probable cause.

Court documents reveal that another teacher stepped in to diffuse the situation.

Koster had his attorney present when he turned himself in. He was arraigned in district court and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
