PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A young mother was arrested after police say she snatched her 3-year-old child, who is currently in the custody of his grandmother, from a Providence daycare center Thursday.
Dejon Towns, 22, showed up to the Love 4 All daycare on Eddy Street just after 11 a.m. A worker allowed Towns into the building without showing her identification, according to police.
A second daycare worker told police she confronted the mother and asked that she show her ID. Townes then started screaming expletives at staff members and grabbed her 3-year-old before quickly taking off, police said.
An employee tried to hold the door closed, but police said Towns shoved her away and drove off in a silver BMW.
As police searched the area for Towns’ car, the young child was dropped back off at the daycare center by another woman. Minutes later, the mother was taken into police custody on Alfonso Street in Providence.
The unregistered BMW was found abandoned on Hilton Street minutes after Towns’ arrest.
