CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) – Four home invasion suspects were taken into custody Thursday night after a brief chase in Cranston.
According to police, residents of the Pontiac Avenue home were watching television when they heard a knock at the front door, followed by a man’s voice claiming to be a police officer. Seconds later, the suspect barged into the home waving a silver handgun.
As the suspect was demanding cash from a resident inside, the resident’s brother let their dogs loose which chased the intruder out of the house, police said.
The suspect, who was described as a heavy set black male wearing a winter jacket and a mask, ran one street over and jumped into a silver Chevrolet which took off towards Reservoir Ave. Moments later, a detective spotted the suspect’s vehicle, which stopped only after striking the police cruiser.
Police surrounded the car and took four suspects into custody. The driver of the car Calvin Johnson, 37; Curtis Gomes, 18; Jodi Johnson, 42; and a 17-year-old are all facing first degree robbery charges.
The three adult suspects were arraigned and ordered held without bail.
