Man arraigned in taxi driver attack

New Bedford, Mass. (WPRI) – A New Bedford man was arraigned on multiple charges in the beating of a cab driver who had driven him from Fall River to New Bedford.

31-year-old Braulio Jones faced a judge this morning. He’s charged with assault and battery, larceny of a motor vehicle and evasion of a taxi fare.

New Bedford Police told Eyewitness News that the cab driver picked up Jones Monday night in Fall River and took him home to Tallman Street.

The cab driver told police, he asked for the fare and that’s when the suspect allegedly went on the attack. The driver was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was treated for cuts and bruises to his head and face. He also had injuries to his legs.

Police officers located Jones about a block away from the crime scene.

According to police, Jones was in possession of the cab driver’s keys.
