Senate committee to consider opioid overdose bills

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The Rhode Island Senate Health and Human Services Committee is considering several bills related to the uptick in deadly overdoses on heroin and other opioids.

Some of the bills being considered would require health insurance coverage for drugs that help treat opioid substance abuse and addictions.

Another would redirect funds earmarked for substance abuse prevention targeted towards student assistance programs.

The committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday afternoon on the second floor of the State House.
