School nurse’s license suspended, hearing postponed

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) – A Narragansett High School nurse had her license suspended indefinitely by the Department of Health, after she was charged with heroin possession last month.

According to Charlestown Police, Lynn Magnusen, 52, of Charlestown was found unconscious in her car outside of Rippy’s Liquor & Marketplace on March 13. Officers say they found a crack cocaine pipe and two syringes inside of her car.

She was taken into custody and later released on personal recognizance.

Superintendent Katherine Sipala told Eyewitness News that Magnusen was placed on paid administrative leave effective March 17. A substitute nurse has been hired to fill in for the remainder of the school year.

In a summery suspension report, Dr. Michael Fine confirmed that Magnunsen had her nursing license suspended indefinitely pending further notice.

A hearing was scheduled for Friday at the Department of Health in Providence but was postponed. The new hearing date has not yet been set.
