MENDON, Mass. (WPRI) – It’s been a busy year for the staff and zookeepers at Southwick’s Zoo, who have welcomed three baby giraffes since January.
Daisy was born on January 11, to her mother Dottie, who lives at Southwick’s. Dottie was unable to feed the calf, so Daisy was transported to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Grafton, where she remained for a week before coming home.
Just a few weeks later, Maisy gave birth to a male calf named Rocket, who is currently being bottle fed by the staff at Southwick’s.
On April 3, the zoo welcomed Max, who is the baby of Pinda. They are both doing well and according to zoo staff, Pinda is a very protective yet nurturing mother.
Southwick’s Zoo will be opening for the 2014 season on Saturday, April 12. The baby giraffes will be on exhibit depending on the weather.
