TORONTO (WPRI) — A former University of Rhode Island basketball player has been charged with shooting a mother of four to death in Toronto.
According to the Toronto Sun, 33-year-old Andrea White was with friends and family outside a home Saturday night when she was struck by gunfire. She was carried inside, where she collapsed and died soon after.
Police told the paper a white Land Rover drove past the home and fired several shots from the passenger vehicle. Officers pursued the vehicle and the two occupants fled on foot. Michael Davani, 21, was caught and taken into custody, according to the Sun.
The paper reports the second suspect, 23-year-old Alwayne Bigby, turned himself in to police at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Bigby, a Toronto native, played at Northeastern for three years before transferring to URI for the 2012-13 season.
Police told the paper they believe the address was targeted, but that a motive for a shooting was not known. They also said a gun was recovered where the suspects fled from the SUV.
