NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — A funeral service for Nuala Pell, wife of the late Sen. Claiborne Pell, has been scheduled for next week in Newport.
Pell died Sunday at Newport Hospital at age 89.
A spokesman for her grandson, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Clay Pell, did not know the cause of her death. But he said she had been in good health, and her death was a shock to the family.

A funeral service is set for 11 a.m. on April 21 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Nuala Pell was active into her later years, including in politics. She was with her grandson and his wife, figure skater Michelle Kwan, when he announced he was running for governor in January.
