Hotel employees hold protest

Group demands higher minimum wage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence hotel employees are demanding a higher minimum wage.

Dozens of workers gathered at the Providence’s City Council meeting on Thursday night.

The group claims they cannot survive on the current minimum wage. A petition has been started to ask council members to increase the minimum wage in city hotels to $15 an hour. The petition has been signed by more than 1,000 people.

The city council did not make a final decision at Thursday’s meeting.
