EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A Fall River man is facing charges after police say he was driving under the influence with a 7-year-old boy in the back seat.
State police troopers responded to a three car accident on Route 195 west in East Providence on Thursday. Police believe that the driver of one of the vehicles, Luis Manuel Medeiros, 42, was under the influence of alcohol.
According to Col. Steven O’Donnell, Medeiros failed a series of field sobriety test and was arrested at the scene. He’s facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and refusing a chemical test.
Several witnesses said they observed Medeiros’ car lose control in Swansea, and then strike a tractor-trailer in Seekonk, Mass. Witnesses reported seeing his car flee the accident driving over 90 miles per hour.
The 7-year-old passenger was unbuckled in the back seat and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital and is now in state custody.
