Massachusetts man pleads guilty of Social Security fraud

REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) – Prosecutors say a 43-year old Ware, Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to fraudulently collecting more than $50,000 in Social Security disability payments while working an $80,000 per year job.

Carl Lynch began receiving disability payments under Social Security in 2003.

In 2007, while still collecting those payments, he began working as a personal care attendant for an elderly Rehoboth man.

The income he made from that job made him ineligible for Social Security payments, but Lynch used another man’s identity to collect the money.

Lynch pleaded guilty in federal court to theft of public money.

He’ll be sentenced on June 22.
