PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – A Pawtucket man accused of murdering his 10-year-old daughter was scheduled for a pretrial conference on Monday.
Jorge DePina, 33, was arrested last July after police say he brought his badly injured daughter to Miriam Hospital for treatment. Police said the girl, Aleida, had bruises and burns all over her body when she was admitted. A few hours later, she was pronounced dead.
The cause of her death was determined to be blunt force trauma.
DePina was arrested July 4 and charged with first-degree child abuse, which was later upgraded to a murder charge.
DePina has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
