PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after an armed suspect stole more than $9,000 from a Providence convenience store.

Surveillance footage obtained by Eyewitness News shows a man armed with a gun demanding cash from the clerk at Gio’s Market, located at 537 Chalkstone Avenue.

The clerk, Dioeany Hermanez, said he was forced to the ground at gunpoint during the ordeal. He also said this isn’t the first robbery that’s happened at the store.

“I do check around this corner, because really many guys are outside every day. That’s what happens, I don’t know what I can do,” he said. “It’s very, very dangerous right now.”

Hermanez said the money that was stolen was intended to be sent back to his home country.

Police have yet to release any further details on the investigation.
