NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) – A pair of roommates was arrested after guns, drugs and cash were discovered during a drug raid in New Bedford Tuesday night, according to police.
Members of the New Bedford Police Department’s Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau said they conducted an authorized search at a city residence on Hemlock Street around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Upon entering the residence, detectives said they found 20 grams of marijuana, more than $600 in cash, a semi-automatic Beretta handgun with an illegible serial number and 5 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition.
A man and a woman, neither of whom had a license to carry a firearm, were arrested at the scene.
Devon Cuba, 21, and Demitra Rae Pickering, 20, both residents of the searched Hemlock Street home, were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws; unlawful possession of a firearm; unlawful possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers; and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Both Cuba and Pickering were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in New Bedford District Court.
