Cause of death determined for man allegedly assaulted outside bar

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Investigators have determined the cause of death for a man who died after police say he was assaulted outside of a Woonsocket bar.

The Medical Examiner’s Office says Robert Gordon died from blunt impact head trauma. His autopsy was performed Wednesday.

Woonsocket Police tell Eyewitness News that they now plan to meet with the Attorney General’s office.

Gordon died at Rhode Island Hospital on Easter Sunday, two days after he was transported from Charley’s Place on First Avenue to Landmark Medical Center.

Hours after he was admitted, medical staff alerted police that Gordon’s condition worsened and he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Detectives say they developed probable cause to arrest his roommate, Alan Klemanchuck, 58, for domestic felony assault.

Gordon’s sister, Linda, says an eyewitness saw Klemanchuck sucker punch Gordon. Neighbors told us the bar’s music was raised louder than it ever has before around the time he was allegedly assaulted.

Klemanchuck was arraigned on the felony assault charge and released on $20,000 personal recognizance.
