CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) – A young child is being credited with helping to save the lives of his father and brother, according to the Cranston Police Dept.
According to police, a Cranston father was out on the Pawtuxet River on a kayak with his two sons, 3 and 11, Saturday afternoon. During the boat trip, police say the kayak capsized.
Police said the 11-year-old son climbed the banks of the river and told residence living on Riverside Avenue to get help.
Rescue officials began a search for the boy’s father and brother, but it turned out they were able to make it to the shoreline on their own.
The father and the toddler were treated for mild hypothermia, but they are in good condition.
