PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — One of the circus performers hurt in a horrific accident in Providence over the weekend has been discharged, according to Rhode Island Hospital officials.

Samantha Pitard was one of eight people hospitalized Sunday after an accident during a “human chandelier” stunt at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center caused them to fall approximately 30 feet.

The hospital said four performers remain in serious condition, while three others have requested their conditions not be released.

The accident remains under investigation. The cause appeared to be a broken clip, which has been handed over to the Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for testing.

We spoke with a friend of Pitard’s Monday, who said her spirits were high despite the terrifying ordeal she went through.

Hospital officials have scheduled a news conference for 10 a.m. Wednesday to further discuss the treatment being given to the fall victims.
