PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Providence’s popular Thayer Street is getting a facelift.
Brown University President Christina Paxson and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras announced a series of improvements Tuesday morning.
The changes to the commercial district include new signage, street repaving and relining, new green space, trash compactors, changes to curbs, and other measures.
Thousands of tourists, visitors and residents are attracted to this area filled with a mix of restaurants and retail establishments right on the border of the Ivy League campus.
The city and the school came up with these improvements after an 18-month analysis and planning effort.
Brown University, the City of Providence and the Thayer Street Management District will work together to raise the funds for the project over the next six months.
