CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters were called to the marina at the Rhode Island Yacht Club late Saturday after several boats caught fire.
Cranston fire officials tell Eyewitness News all of the department’s apparatus was called to the scene shortly after 11:00 p.m. Six boats and a portion of the dock were all on fire. The flames had trapped people on the end of the dock. They were rescued by fire boat.
Authorities say there are some major environmental concerns, because three of the vessels that caught fire have sunk — and are leaking fuel. The U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of Environmental Management also responded to the scene.
One firefighter was treated for a back injury, and another person was taken to the hospital with chest pain.
The Fire Marshal will be back at the marina Sunday morning to try and pinpoint what sparked the blaze.
