Stolen canoes sought in bank robbery investigation

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are on the lookout for two men accused in an armed robbery at an Attleboro bank Monday.

Two men entered the Bank of America on Pleasant Street about 3 p.m., displayed handguns, and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

Police said the suspects fled east on Pleasant Street in a green Ford pickup truck, which was later found abandoned behind a business near the Norton town line. It was later determined the truck was stolen in Canton, Mass., several hours before the robbery.

During the investigation, police learned two 14-foot canoes, one believed to be a green Coleman, were on the truck’s racks when it was stolen but were no longer there at the time of the robbery. Police are urging anyone that may have seen the canoes to contact their local police department.

The suspects are described as white males, with one wearing a black sweatshirt with what appeared to be an Under Armor insignia, a black ball cap, black gloves with gray stripes and gray sweatpants, and the other wearing sunglasses, a black hat, dark hooded sweatshirt, navy blue sweatpants and red ski gloves with black stripes.

The robbery and auto theft remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Attleboro Police Department Detectives at (508) 222-1212.
