PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Johnston man has pleaded no contest to violating state law by not paying an employee more than $1,700 in back wages.
John J. Salois, 42, entered the plea of nolo contendere Friday at Providence District Court, the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office said Monday.
Salois, president of Airtime, Inc., was accused of failing to pay employee Erin Marie Magee for more than 100 hours of Sunday pay between July 2011 and May 2012, and two hours of regular pay between March 31, 2013 and April 7, 2013.
When he failed to comply with an order to pay the employee $1,710.80, the Department of Labor and Training referred the case to the Attorney General’s office for criminal prosecution.
Salois’s case was filed for a year — there will be no penalty if he faces no other criminal charges — and he was ordered to pay restitution to Magee in the amount of the unpaid wages.
