Memorial Hospital has introduced a new medical center that will help thousands of patients in Rhode Island.
Dr. Peter Gill from Memorial Hospital’s new Comprehensive Hernia Center joined the Rhode Show Monday to talk more about what the center offers.
In Rhode Island alone, residents experience 2,000- 3,000 hernias annually, and doctors believed there was a great need for a center like this to give patients complete and total care. Only 4-5 surgeons in RI perform complex abdominal wall reconstruction, utilizing advanced laparoscopic and plastic surgery techniques.
The hernia center concept is designed to provide complete management of abdominal wall problems, and will include non-operative management, all operative options, physical therapy, nutrition, smoking cessation, pain management, and plastic surgical options.
Patients will be followed prospectively and some will be entered into a national database through the American Hernia Society’s Quality Collaborative.
