CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — The man accused of stabbing the mother of an 8-year-old girl to death over the weekend was arraigned on multiple charges Monday morning.
Robert Bethea, 45, was taken into custody on Sunday morning and charged with murder and violation of a no-contact order.
According to police, officers responded to 149 Valley Street just before 5 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. When police arrived they found Shelina Moreino (Bethea), 41, stabbed to death on the kitchen floor of her second floor apartment.
Police said the accused killer was the one who alerted police to the alleged crime.
“The Central Falls Police Department received a 911 call from a male caller who stated he had just stabbed his wife,” said prosecutor Amy Dogde, “Officers immediately observed a male subject in the bedroom of the apartment. The male was found with blood on his clothing and on his hands.”
Eyewitness News has learned that Moreino has a no contact order against Bethea stemming from a misdemeanor assault charge. It was issued in January 2014.
The suspect was a resident of Operation Stand Down in West Warwick, which is an organization that provides housing for veterans who are disabled and homeless.
Bethea is being held without bail and is due back in court on May 27.
