NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) – The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum broke ground on a $15.7 million expansion and renovation project Wednesday.
State and local officials were on hand for the afternoon ceremony.
The project will increase the Newport campus size by about one acre.
The first phase of construction includes the development of a new tennis facility and a new building to house locker rooms, a fitness area, retail space, and Hall of Fame offices.
The new facility will add three new indoor/outdoor hard courts to the property.
The project will also upgrade the museum with new technology and enhanced exhibitions and improve campus-wide amenities.
It’s being funded by the Match Point capital campaign.
