PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence woman was arrested under suspicion of DUI Thursday after Rhode Island State Police said she struck a cruiser on a city highway.

According to Col. Steven O’Donnell, Anna Capaldi, 25, of 2 Regency Plaza apt. 902, was taken into custody at about 12:49 a.m.

Troopers were investigating collision involving three vehicles on Route 146 Northbound when the suspect hit an occupied State Police cruiser that had its emergency lights on. Capaldi submitted to a field sobriety test and showed signs of impairment, O’Donnell said.

The trooper that was in the cruiser suffered minor injuries, and was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and released.

Capaldi was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs – BAC unknown – refusal to submit to a chemical test, and operating on a suspended license. She was arraigned in Sixth District Court and released on $2,000 personal recognizance. O’Donnell said Capaldi was also issued a motor vehicle summons for failing to move over one lane or reduce speed when approaching an emergency vehicle with emergency lights activated.

O’Donnell also issued a reminder to anyone who sees a potentially dangerous driver or hazardous roadway conditions to report the situation immediately by dialing 911 or *77.
